Details

Description

This release introduces AI-Generated Development Plans within the Cornerstone Performance Suite. From the Create Development Plan page, after entering a title and plan purpose, users click Generate Objectives to open a two-step flyout. In the first step, AI suggests objectives (three per generation, with an option to generate more); in the second step, users review AI-generated skills, learnings, and tasks for each selected objective in an expand/collapse layout.

By default the AI suggests five skills, three learnings, and two tasks per objective. Users can regenerate any resource up to three times, browse regeneration history via pagination, edit suggestions to remove items, and then add the complete content to the development plan. Manual addition of skills, learnings, and tasks remains fully available alongside AI generation.

Business Need

Creating development plans today is slow, manual, and lacks AI support. The process is time-consuming and frustrating, often resulting in unfinished drafts and plans of poor quality that fail to serve their purpose. Managers responsible for multiple reportees must build a separate, customized plan for each individual, creating significant friction and administrative burden.

By generating tailored objectives, skills, learnings, and recommendations in seconds based on plan purpose and roadmap, this enhancement reduces the manual burden on managers, improves plan quality and adoption, and empowers employees to take ownership of their growth through personalized guidance — turning a manual task into a scalable, high-impact experience.

Key Features

  • Generate objectives tailored to the assignee's user profile, the selected plan purpose, and the entered title and description.
  • Suggest skills, learnings, and tasks against each selected objective, displayed in an expand/collapse view under the objective.
  • Regenerate objectives, skills, learnings, and tasks up to three times each, with full regeneration history accessible through pagination; if no new suggestions exist, existing content is preserved.
  • Purpose-driven generation across four plan purposes (Progress in Current Role, Build New Skills/Upskilling, Performance Improvement Plan, and Work Towards Aspirational Role), each using a tailored set of data inputs to the LLM.
  • Two-step flyout lets users select objectives (with checkboxes, select-all, and a continue button disabled until at least one is selected), then review and customize associated skills, learnings, and tasks.
  • Edit and add to plan allows removing items, viewing learnings as rich learning cards (thumbnail, title, date, duration), and adding the full generated content to the development plan in a few steps.
  • Admin enablement at both portal level (AI Activation Preferences) and OU level (Development Plan Preferences), with both toggles off by default.

Deployment & Considerations

This feature is available on Staging from 11 June and on Production from 10 July. It is available to all Performance Suite customers who have signed up for Elevate+, across all regions, with no regulated compliance requirements.

Enablement is off by default and requires admin action at two levels: a toggle under Core Functions > Core Preferences > AI Activation Preferences > Performance, and an Allow AI Generation checkbox per OU under Performance Management > Development Plan Preferences. Known limitations: AI generation supports a single assignee at a time, and aspirational-role generation is restricted to the self-user only (managers cannot create aspirational-role plans for others). Phase one supports four languages. Error handling and clear notifications are in place for failed generations across objectives, skills, learnings, and tasks, and all flyout screens are fully responsive on tablet and mobile devices.
