Skill Integration: Connect Employee Goals with Skill Development

This release introduces Skill Integration, which connects employee goals with skill development by adding skills as a configurable field on goals. Administrators can enable the field in Goal Configuration, and users or managers can tag skills during goal creation or editing. Skills tagged on goals automatically flow into the employee's skill profile, improving visibility into capability building across performance and learning.

What's New

  • Configure skills as a field for goals via Goal Configuration field administration.
  • Add skills during goal creation or editing, from suggestions or search.
  • Automatically populate tagged skills into the employee's skill profile as developing.
  • Apply skills to manager-created team goals as developing skills for all assignees.
  • Receive skill suggestions based on the skill profile and goal title and description.
  • Record skill additions and removals in goal history as details modified.
  • Prompt users to confirm skill progression upon goal completion.

Description

Skill Integration connects employee goals with skill development by introducing skills as a configurable field on goals. Once an administrator enables the field in Goal Configuration, users and managers can tag relevant skills directly while creating or editing a goal, either by selecting from suggested skills or searching for a specific one.

Skills tagged on a goal automatically appear in the employee's skill profile as developing. For manager-created team goals, the selected skills become developing skills for all assignees. When a goal is completed, the user receives a prompt to confirm progression and can move those skills to their declared section, making capability building trackable across both performance and learning.

Business Need

Teams routinely set and pursue goals, but skill growth is rarely captured alongside that work. As a result, promotion and development conversations do not fully reflect the capabilities an employee has built, leaving progress undocumented and difficult to evaluate.

By linking skills directly to goals, organizations gain better visibility into capability building and create a documented record of growth as goals are completed. This reduces administrative effort, strengthens promotion conversations, and keeps employee development consistently connected to performance outcomes.

Deployment & Considerations

This feature is available in Stage with the start of UAT and in Production with the production release. It is available to customers using the performance Goals and Skills modules, and no new permissions are required.

The skill field is off by default and requires admin action: it must be manually enabled in Goal Configuration field administration. The field name cannot be changed. The skill field row is only available to enable if the Skills module is active. If a goal containing skills is copied using copy advanced, the skills are carried over to the new draft goal.
